This nation's first ever Special Olympics ballroom dance competition
occurred Saturday, July 5, in Fort Wayne, Indiana where clients from Easter Seals Arc competed for a first-, second-, or third-place medal or a ribbon. Organizers for the local program hope that it will become a model for a new national Special Olympics sport. Steve
Hinkle, president of Easter Seals Arc and a longtime ballroom dancer, was quoted in a News-Sentinel article as saying: "Ballroom dance is a healthy activity. If you really are into ballroom dance, it can improve all kinds of things in your health...It can be a lifelong skill."
